Its root  ‘vish’ means to spread. Poison kills by spreading in the body. So here ‘shri’ means the poison which spreads the consciousness. It kills the ego by expanding the limited consciousness (I). Shrividya means that wisdom which helps to understand the all pervading consciousness. It is a wisdom which expands the limited consciousness into the all pervading consciousness. This path includes a series of techniques which ends in the expansion of consciousness. In this technique the mantra is one of the many means used. It has to be understood from an adept Guru.

"If you believe in God and He turns out to exist, then you have obviously made a good decision; however, if He does not exist, and you still believe in Him, you haven't lost anything; but if you don't believe in Him and He does exist, then you are in serious trouble."
